Xive for OBS
Sign in once and OBS is set up to stream to Xive. Your chat, activity, quick actions and stream manager sit right inside OBS as docks.
Install
Close OBS, run the one line for your system, then open OBS again. The installer downloads the right build, checks it, and puts it where your OBS looks for plugins.
Windows · PowerShell
irm https://media.xivecdn.com/obs/install-windows.ps1 | iex
Close OBS first — Windows locks a loaded plugin, and the installer refuses while it is open. Installs to %ProgramData%\obs-studio\plugins.
Uninstall
& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://media.xivecdn.com/obs/install-windows.ps1))) -Uninstall
macOS · Terminal
curl -fsSL https://media.xivecdn.com/obs/install-macos.sh | sh
Apple Silicon only for now — there is no Intel build published yet. Installs to ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/plugins.
Uninstall
curl -fsSL https://media.xivecdn.com/obs/install-macos.sh | sh -s -- --uninstall
Linux (Flatpak) · Terminal
curl -fsSL https://media.xivecdn.com/obs/install-linux.sh | sh
The default on Linux, and the one to use if you installed OBS from Flathub, Bazzite or Silverblue. Installs to ~/.var/app/com.obsproject.Studio/…/plugins.
Uninstall
curl -fsSL https://media.xivecdn.com/obs/install-linux.sh | sh -s -- --uninstall
Linux (distro OBS) · Terminal
Unsupported buildcurl -fsSL https://media.xivecdn.com/obs/install-linux.sh | sh -s -- --allow-native
Unsupported build: it needs a Qt 6.11-era distro (Fedora 44 or newer). On Ubuntu LTS it will not load — use the Flatpak OBS instead. Installs to ~/.config/obs-studio/plugins.
Uninstall
curl -fsSL https://media.xivecdn.com/obs/install-linux.sh | sh -s -- --uninstall
Portable OBS (Windows) · PowerShell
Using a portable OBS — one you unzipped into a folder rather than installed? It only loads plugins from its own folder, so the Windows line above won’t reach it. Close OBS, then run this, replacing D:\OBS with your OBS folder (the one with bin, data and obs-plugins in it):
& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://media.xivecdn.com/obs/install-windows.ps1))) -Portable 'D:\OBS'
Installs into your OBS folder: obs-plugins\64bit and data\obs-plugins\xive-obs-plugin. The plugin knows it’s in a portable OBS, so its update button keeps using your folder.
Uninstall
& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://media.xivecdn.com/obs/install-windows.ps1))) -Uninstall -Portable 'D:\OBS'
Removes only the files Xive put there — other plugins in the same folder are left alone.
Did it load? In OBS open Help → Log Files → View Current Log and look for [xive] plugin ready. Running the same line again updates to the newest version.
What it adds to OBS
-
Xive. Sign in once, then one button writes your server URL and stream key into OBS for you.
-
Chat. The studio chat panel, with the composer and moderation tools.
-
Activity. Follows, gifts, Sparks and supporter unlocks as they land.
-
Quick actions. Raid, poll, ad break, clip, goals and giveaways without leaving OBS.
-
Stream manager. Title, category and the go-live notification, editable mid-broadcast.
Docks are under Docks in the OBS menu bar. Sign in once in the Xive dock and the others follow.
First stream
- 1
Open the Xive dock and sign in.
- 2
Click the button that sets up your stream — it writes Xive’s server and your stream key into OBS’s settings.
- 3
Set your title and category in Stream manager, then press Start Streaming in OBS.
The plugin sets the server and key, not your encoder. For the encoder, bitrate, keyframe and audio settings to use (and why not to use AMD hardware encoding), see Set up your stream on Xive.
