This is a touchy subject, and my family does not ever really talk about it. Growing up, this was something I had to learn to live with. I was never really asked what I remembered from such a young age.
But the truth is, a lot of it wasn’t remembering.
A lot of it was adapting.
Adapting to something I was too young to understand. Learning how to live with pieces of something that happened before I was old enough to have the words for it. And as I got older, I started realizing that sometimes the things you adapt to as a kid don't just disappear because you grew up.
“Still in This Car” is about that.
It’s about what stays with you. What you don't talk about. What you learn to carry. And what it feels like when a part of you is still sitting in a moment that everyone else has already left.
This one is personal.
